Max would be delighted to give you lessons on banjo or guitar. He plays a combination of three finger styles on banjo: Scruggs, melodic and single string. He can transcribe and teach banjo parts from any of these styles and across all eras of the bluegrass canon, from Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe and Bill Keith, to Tony Trischka, Béla Fleck, and Noam Pikelny.

On the guitar, Max’s styles range from American Primitive, early Blues and swing to flat picking, fingerpicking and electric guitar.

Max believes in a student directed approach and he will help students make arrangements for songs regardless of genre, from pop music to a Bach prelude. Max focuses strongly on technique, theory, how to practice, and improvisation. He welcomes students of all skill levels.

Please contact him using this form with any questions or to set up a lesson (currently via Skype or Zoom).
